Helping local authority tourism departments provide a quality service and operate according to the principles of best practice are the cornerstones of DP:UK’s work.  In that context we believe strongly that performance management and assessment are key elements of a successful and effective operation.

At a national level DP:UK works closely with the Audit Commission, the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) and the tourism division within the DCMS.  At present we are looking in particular at the feasibility of a tourism performance indicator (TPI) being included in the culture block set of PIs being drawn up for implementation in the post-CPA regime.  With the DCMS we are also considering how tourism might best be incorporated into Local Area Agreements and we are also consulting IDeA about the relevance of a self-assessment toolkit for LA tourism services.
