LA Tourism Group Launches Website

Destination Performance UK (DP:UK), the membership organisation comprising 140 local authority tourism services, is launching a new website.

The site, www.dpuk.org.uk has been developed with the assistance of the Royal Thames Yacht Club and Phase 1, which has general access, goes live on Wednesday, 21 December 2005.  A discrete Members’ Area accessible only to DP:UK subscribers by means of a user name and password will be launched in the spring of 2006.

The new site comprises various sections outlining the organisation’s history, objectives,
activities, management group contacts and member destinations.? It also reproduces the questions asked in DP UK’s annual Baseline Statement, a research questionnaire which collates data on the resources and performance.

Commenting on the initiative, DP UK Chairman Peter Lane said, ‘The launch of our website forms an important part of our continuing efforts to assist destinations in benchmarking and performance management.? It also highlights our work with the Audit Commission and the DCMS to identify tourism performance indicators which will help destinations to develop their business.

EDITORS’ NOTE

Destination Performance UK was founded in 1999 as the National Tourism Best Value Group in response to the requirement for local authorities to adopt the principles of best value in providing their services.  It changed its name to DP UK in 2004.
The Group is administered under contract by Tourism South East and comprises a number of generic category groups (City, Coastal, Rural, County, London) who meet several times a year to review issues relevant to best practice.? A management group, comprising representatives of the DCMS, LGA, TMI, the Tourism Society, the BRA, Tourism SE and ILAM along with DP UK’s own Chairman, Vice-Chairman and National Co-ordinator, also meets quarterly to determine policy.
